At WA Scanning, we provide professional service locating and concrete scanning across Perth and regional Western Australia. Using a combination of electromagnetic locating and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), we deliver accurate, reliable information on underground utilities and embedded structural elements.
Our services support safe excavation, cutting, and construction by helping builders, contractors, and engineers reduce risk, avoid costly damage, and keep projects moving with confidence.
We offer non-invasive service locating and concrete scanning, along with on-site markings and detailed reporting to clearly show our findings. We can also assist with specialised testing on request, such as mortar scratch testing, schmidt rebound hammer testing, and compressive strength testing.
By using a combination of electromagnetic locating and ground penetrating radar (GPR), we provide a more complete understanding of what’s below the surface.
We combine electromagnetic locating and GPR scanning to give you a more complete picture of what’s below the surface. This helps prevent service strikes, avoid structural damage, and gives you confidence to proceed — even on sites with limited or no existing plans.
We work with builders, contractors, engineers, crane operators, asset owners, and private clients across Western Australia — anyone who needs to know what’s below the surface before starting work.
Get in touch through the website or give us a call. For larger jobs, you can send through photos or plans — we’ll review everything, provide a quote, and get you booked in.
We service all of Western Australia — from Perth to regional and remote areas. If the job’s there, we can get to it.
We focus on providing a straightforward, reliable service and information you can actually use on site. We’re easy to work with, flexible around project requirements, and tailor each job to suit what you need — whether it’s a small private job or a larger project.
Not always. While we use reliable methods to locate services, there are situations where utilities can be difficult or impossible to detect.
This can happen if services aren’t shown on any plans, are made from non-conductive materials (like PVC, asbestos, or concrete), or are abandoned and no longer carrying a signal.
Ground conditions can also affect results, as GPR doesn’t perform well in certain soils such as clay, wet, or highly mineralised ground.
In many cases, we can identify when site conditions are limiting the results and will flag this at the time, so you can take extra caution where needed.
Because of this, service locating is about reducing risk as much as possible, rather than guaranteeing that every service will be identified.
Accuracy depends on the type of service and site conditions, but in most cases we can locate within a tight tolerance.
Generally, we work to Quality Level B (line locating), which typically provides accuracy within ±300mm horizontally.
In some cases, such as deep sewer and drainage, or where services aren’t detectable on the day, we may provide Quality Level C information based on visible structures like manholes, inspection points, pits, and other surface markers.
All classifications are in line with AS5488-2019 (Subsurface Utility Information), and we’ll always advise what level of accuracy applies to your job.
In many cases, yes. We can often find bores, irrigation lines, and solenoid valves by tracing the electrical cables that run to them.
It depends on the setup and site conditions, but we’ll let you know what’s possible before we start.
Concrete scanning can identify a range of embedded elements, including reinforcement (reo), post-tension cables, conduits, and other services within the slab. It can also help detect voids or changes within the concrete.
Results depend on the slab makeup and site conditions. Factors like dense reinforcement, slab thickness, or moisture can limit how clearly features can be detected, and in some cases may prevent anything below certain layers from being picked up.
Request a quote for your project and we’ll get back to you promptly with clear pricing and availability. Whether it’s service locating, concrete scanning, or urgent works, WA Scanning is ready to assist.
For urgent enquiries, please call us directly. For larger or more complex jobs, you can also send through photos or an aerial image of the work area along with project details to admin@wascanning.com.au to help us provide a more accurate quote
